What to Expect as an Intern at McCarthy
Each intern is assigned a mentor to ensure time at McCarthy is well spent. Some of the many assignments our interns may expect to work on include:
Project Management
- Assisting project managers and superintendents
- Coordinating subcontractor activities
- Planning and scheduling, processing change and extra work orders, preparing requests for progress payment
- Obtaining permits and licenses, checking zoning and code requirements, designing temporary facilities
- Arranging for utility services, conducting safety inspections and training, supervising punchlist activities
- Expediting material deliveries, assisting in documenting and preparing claims.
- Verifying work hours, materials used and other elements necessary for updating database files
- Preparing briefing charts and formal reports
- Helping with close out
Field Operations
- Scheduling, checking material deliveries
- Assisting with cost control, inventory control, subcontractor monitoring
- Assisting with report preparation
- Assisting in safety inspections and participating in jobsite walks
- Conducting site tours
Office Operations
- Preparing quantity take-offs, calling vendors and subcontractors for proposals
- Checking drawings and specifications for completeness, discrepancies
- Attending bid openings/conferences
- Assisting with project record keeping, preparing shop drawings, and assisting with cost control records
