In 1979, McCarthy purchased a 29-year-old, Phoenix-based general contracting firm. It became the McCarthy Southwest Division providing the entire range of McCarthy services to clients in Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Mexico (as Constructora McCarthy de Mexico).A branch office was opened in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1997 to better serve the rapidly growing Nevada construction market where McCarthy has been active since 1981.

At present, the full-time staff of 100 office and field professionals are involved in approximately 40 projects in various phases of preconstruction and construction totaling over $500 million in contract value.
