Delivering Sunshine in Northern California

McCarthy’s choice for its Heart Hat program this year started by watching the Today Show on NBC. Lori Winsor in McCarthy’s Roseville office saw a story about Project Sunshine on the news and wanted to know if this fit the profile for McCarthy’s Community Day efforts.

One phone call lead to another, and sure enough – the relationship was started.

Project Sunshine is a non-denominational, non-profit organization that provides free programs and services to children and families who are affected by life-threatening illnesses or other serious medical challenges.

Project Sunshine assisted McCarthy in selecting Sutter Memorial Hospital to take advantage of our hard working and kind hearted employees. Their pediatric playroom was dilapidated and had not been refurbished in years.

A happy and hard-working group of Sacramento McCarthy employees showed up early and scraped, spackled, painted, cleaned, built/installed new shelves, stained woodwork, chairs, and tables, fixed drawers, and provided new games and toys.  Hospital personnel remarked throughout the day that they had never seen a group of people work so hard and so well together.

The McCarthy Heart Hats community involvement program is dedicated to encouraging, supporting and recognizing McCarthy employees’ volunteer efforts in a variety of causes to ensure real needs are being met in communities where employees work, live and play.

The company-wide volunteer program allows McCarthy employees across the country to take at least one (paid) full-day off from work annually to utilize their building skills and other talents to aid local organizations in need.
