“The Children’s Hospital project represented an extraordinary collaborative effort among the owner, design team, general contractors and all of the subcontractors.”
—Jim Shmerling, DHA, president and CEO, The Children’s Hospital

On the last weekend in September, 111 children moved from the old Children’s Hospital in mid-town Denver, seven miles east to their new “most healing environment” in Aurora.
The young patients will probably never know their new 1.44 million-square-foot, $567 million facility was constructed in just 41 months. They won’t care about the 842 miles of wiring running through 238 miles of conduit in the building or about the 16,000 fixtures it takes to light the facility. What they and their families do care about is the environment that surrounds them every day they are hospitalized in this state-of-the-art facility. The construction team achieved this successful result in record time-three weeks early and on budget.
