Hard Hats and Flowers Come Together in OC for the Fight Against Cancer

In observance of Daffodil Days, a national celebration of hope and healing for cancer patients, St. Joseph Hospital, McCarthy and TAYLOR teamed up to bring cancer patients a smile and hope in an event dedicated to raising awareness of cancer. The event was part of the McCarthy Heart Hats volunteer outreach program, led by the employees of McCarthy.

Construction workers and architects currently working on the hospital’s new $69 million Cancer Center, which is slated to open in July, crossed La Veta Street in Orange with yellow daffodils in hand and offered oncology patients solidarity and hope.  Each of the participants giving daffodils to patients had a personal story of how cancer has affected them or a loved one.

According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), cancer will affect the lives of one in two men and one in three women.  Each year the ACS encourages organizations to participate in Daffodil Days and hand out daffodils, the first flower of spring and a symbol of hope and renewal, in an effort to raise awareness of the disease and encourage support of programs and research.
