McCarthy believes the choices we make are not just for today…not just for us or our clients. The choices we make will leave a legacy for those who will follow us and create new footprints on this earth.
—Excerpt from McCarthy’s Green Mission Statement

Michael Bolen, Chairman & CEO, McCarthy
Throughout McCarthy’s long history, we have consistently worked with our clients, communities and building team partners to construct sustainable and high performance building projects.
These efforts have included providing cost and constructability input in a project’s early stages and developing relationships with specialty subcontractors to complete the construction.
More than a decade ago, a small group of McCarthy employees began meeting to discuss how we could proactively do more…much more. Over the years, this green movement at McCarthy continued to gain momentum formalizing a number of years ago in the McCarthy Green Team. Today this group consists of more than 100 LEED Accredited Professionals from across the country communicating regularly about all things green.
The single, simple word “green” suggests something remarkably different to each one of us-carbon footprint, sustainability, the price of a gallon of gasoline, alternate fuels, recycling, energy efficient equipment, life-cycle costing, co-generation, hilltop wind farms, nuclear power plants, solar panels-the list goes on and on.
At McCarthy, our efforts to make a significant environmental difference revolve around four basic principles:
- Weaving sustainability into the fabric of our operations to reduce the environmental impact of our office and field operations.
-
Encouraging every client and building partner to seriously consider sustainable building practices regardless of formally established goals.
-
Bringing viable green solutions to the table, which are in the best interests of the project, client and building partners.
-
Educating and training our employees to give them the tools to lead the way.
McCarthy’s never-ending goal is to be the Best Builder in America. Inherent in this statement is the responsibility to serve as stewards of the environment entrusted to us. It is our business to build. It is up to each of us to do it responsibly. We look forward to working with each of our partners to make a real difference today for our future tomorrow.
