Las Vegas Community Day

SHARE

The Nevada Division Heart Hats Committee recently organized a Community Day to benefit its focus school partner, Paradise Professional Development Elementary School. Nearly two dozen employees of the Las Vegas office gathered to work some McCarthy magic on the at-risk elementary school. The McCarthy maintenance makeover included hanging art, display cases, smart boards, white boards, unloading and assembling furniture, painting walls and shelves and cleaning out the school’s storage area.

Community Day also provided McCarthy an opportunity to put the finishing touches on their previous garden project by creating and placing a commemorative bench in the newly-created kindergarten garden area. McCarthy volunteers skillfully decorated the bench with tiles that were hand-painted by the pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students, as well as their teachers.

“It always feels great to collectively make a difference,” said Steve Foster, McCarthy Superintendent. “The highlight of the day was the look on the librarians face when she received the rolling book cart that we had made.”

McCarthy first joined forces with Paradise Professional Development Elementary School in 2007 as part of the Clark County School District’s Focus School Program that partners community businesses with underserved schools in the valley. Since partnering with Paradise Elementary, employees of the Las Vegas office have done a variety of hands-on projects with the school including painting faces for Halloween, organizing holiday food, book, coat and toy drives and donating their time and materials.
