McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., one of the nation’s leading healthcare builders, announces that the firm has been selected, in joint venture with Balfour Beatty Construction, to provide design-build services for the $503 million Fort Hood Replacement Hospital project at Fort Hood, Texas. The 944,000-square-foot facility will replace the existing 45-year old Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center and provide a new state-of-the-art healthcare facility for Service Members and their Families.
The team also includes HKS Architects and Wingler & Sharp as design partners and Southland Industries / M.C. Dean for MEP services.
Specifically, the project will include a hospital, outpatient clinics, ambulance garage, logistics building, central utility plant and three parking structures. $351 million of the design and construction budget is funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. Construction is scheduled to start in April 2011 completing in May 2014. The facility will showcase numerous innovative sustainable features and will be designed and constructed to achieve LEED Gold certification.
The project team will maximize the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) tools to help facilitate collaboration and coordination of all project aspects during design and construction. “Our overall goal is to create a truly integrated project team approach not only within our team but also with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and all other stakeholders. We look forward to working with everyone and we’re excited to have the opportunity to help create this world-class facility,” said McCarthy Texas Division President Mike McWay
