Female Construction Executives Begin Professional Organization for Women in Construction Operations

Sarah Creighton and Holly Cindell of McCarthy in Newport Beach are among a group of pioneering women from Southern California construction, architecture and engineering companies to begin WiOPS — a new professional organization geared specifically toward women in construction operations. Creighton and Cindell were named co-chairman for the new organization, which aims at mentoring women working in the operations side of construction.

Increased Opportunity Awaits 24 Graduates of Project Legacy’s Small Business Program

Thanks to a greater understanding of construction management, increased opportunities await the 24 local graduates of Project Legacy’s Construction Management University (CMU) Building Blocks program. Interactive course sessions are led by local industry experts and members of the Clark/McCarthy Healthcare Partners joint venture team, the Department of Veterans Affairs’ general contractor for the replacement medical center project known as Project Legacy.

GCC McCarthy Joint Venture Breaks Ground on Denton Army Reserve Center Project

A north Texas joint venture (JV) formed by McCarthy, a Texas builder for 30 years, and  protégé, GCC Enterprises, Inc., broke ground on a new  Army Reserve Center (ARC) on Friday, April 13 in participation with Congressman Michael Burgess and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The nearly $12-million military construction project in Denton, Texas will provide robust headquarters, training and maintenance facilities for the Army Reserve. The construction is being administered by USACE, Fort Worth District. When completed in March of 2013, the ARC will be used to train and develop military skills for local reservists who serve global military missions.

New School in University City, Missouri is First Completed in 15 Years

The School District of University City hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Barbara C. Jordan Elementary School building located at 1500 N. 82nd Boulevard in University City, Mo., on Saturday, April 30. Funded through Proposition U, a $53.6 million bond issue passed in April 2009, the two-story, 60,000-square-foot building has 24 classrooms capable of accommodating up to 500 students, including specialized classrooms and specialty spaces that will enable students to do more exploratory work.
