Team on Children’s Hospital Colorado Expansion Using Cutting-Edge Technology Tools to Keep Project on the Fast Track

Construction on the new $230 million East Tower at Children’s Hospital Colorado (www.childrenscolorado.org) in Aurora, Colo., reached a notable milestone this week with the topping out of the 10-story structure. The expansion is being constructed by the joint venture team of McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. and Gerald H. Phipps, in conjunction with design partners H+L Architecture and ZGF Architects LLP under an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) tri-party agreement.

The final beam in the steel superstructure of the new Kaiser Permanente Oakland Medical Center in Oakland, Calif., was put in place on July 5 during a traditional “topping out” ceremony that celebrated an important benchmark in the construction of the new hospital.

McCarthy “Tops Out” Replacement Hospital and Breaks Ground on MOB for Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon, Ill

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. “topped out” the new 134-bed, 359,000-square-foot replacement hospital and broke ground on a 141,000-square-foot medical office building for Good Samaritan Regional Health Center in Mount Vernon, Ill. yesterday. The $140 million hospital project doubles the size of the existing facility and is about 30 percent complete. It also includes eight observation beds and all rooms are private. The medical office building is connected to the hospital and includes a surgery center and outpatient diagnostic services. Both concrete and structural steel buildings have brick and stone veneer, include five floors over a garden level and are planned to complete in time for use in late 2012.

McCarthy Propels Employee Training in the Construction Industry to the National Stage Again

McCarthy was honored this week with a 2011 Corporate University Xchange (CorpU) Award for Excellence and Innovation. This award recognizes outstanding work in corporate learning and talent development and comes on the heels of McCarthy’s placement on the prestigious 2011 Training 125 list earlier this year. The awards were presented during the Global Leadership Congress 2011, a 3-day symposium co-sponsored by CorpU and the University of Pennsylvania. A first-time applicant, McCarthy was honored with a Best Practice award in the Launching Category.

New School in University City, Missouri is First Completed in 15 Years

The School District of University City hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Barbara C. Jordan Elementary School building located at 1500 N. 82nd Boulevard in University City, Mo., on Saturday, April 30. Funded through Proposition U, a $53.6 million bond issue passed in April 2009, the two-story, 60,000-square-foot building has 24 classrooms capable of accommodating up to 500 students, including specialized classrooms and specialty spaces that will enable students to do more exploratory work.
