McCarthy Wins Southeast Construction’s Award for Best Higher Education/Research Building
Southeast Construction recently honored McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. with its 2010 Best of Higher Education/Research Building award for the builder’s work on the Georgia State University (GSU) Parker H. Petit Science Building. McCarthy broke ground the project in December 2007 with Atlanta architect HDR/CUH2A and completed the 350,000-square-foot project, totaling $125 million in construction costs, in April. The annual competition recognizes construction and design excellence in the four-state region that includes Florida, Georgia, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Construction on University of New Mexico Science and Mathematics Learning Center Begins
McCarthy, one of the nation’s leading education facility builders, recently broke ground on a $14 million Science and Math Learning Center at the University of New Mexico (UNM) main campus in Albuquerque.
The Science and Mathematics Learning Center, which will include a 200-seat auditorium, visualization lab, classrooms, science labs, department and faculty offices, and study areas, will be designed to promote freshmen-level integration between four departments, including mathematics, chemistry, biology, and earth and planetary sciences. In addition, the project will be designed with long distance learning capabilities. Construction of the center began June 29 and is slated for completion in the fall of 2010. The building will consist of four floors, with three floors above grade and one below.
