On May 10, the second phase of the La Escuelita Education Center “topped out,” as the final beam was placed on the structure. Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) officials, teachers, community members and employees of general contractor McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. / Turner Group Construction A Joint Venture were on hand to celebrate the milestone by signing the final steel beam as it was raised before a crowd of onlookers.

Design-Build Medical Center at Fort Hood, Texas Tops Out
The Balfour Beatty | McCarthy joint venture, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Health Facilities Planning Agency (HFPA) and Medical Command (MEDCOM) recently celebrated the official topping out for the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center Replacement at Fort Hood, Texas, on May 14. At $536 million, the medical center replacement is the largest project to date funded by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009, and is the largest design-build project in the Department of Defense’s (DOD) medical construction.
