McCarthy, one of the nation’s leading education and parking builders, has completed construction of the new 270,000-square-foot, 828-space parking structure and adjacent 5,108-square-foot police substation at San Diego Miramar College, located at 10440 Black Mountain Road in the Mira Mesa/Scripps Ranch area of San Diego, Calif. 92126.

San Diego Community College District (SDCCD) officials, Miramar College faculty, and project team members celebrated the completion of the project today with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, followed by guided tours of the new facilities. Program speakers included Charlie Hogquist, police chief, San Diego Community College District; Patricia Hsieh, Ed.D., president, San Diego Miramar College; Rich Grosch, president, SDCCD Board of Trustees; and Michael Bulander, LEED AP.

The police substation portion of the project is on track to receive Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum Certification from the U.S. Green Building Council. It will be the first higher education institution in San Diego County to achieve such LEED status. The police substation is one of 10 LEED certified projects built or planned at Miramar College and among 30 across the SDCCD.

The $17.9 million project is part of the District’s $1.555 billion Propositions S and N construction program, which is providing for new instructional and career training facilities, major renovations, campus-wide infrastructure projects, and parking and public safety enhancements at City, Mesa and Miramar colleges, plus six Continuing Education campuses.

“The McCarthy team succeeded in completing this cost-effective, aesthetically pleasing, highly efficient parking structure ahead of schedule, while incorporating innovative design elements to pursue LEED Platinum Certification of the adjacent police substation,” said David Umstot, vice chancellor of facilities management for the District. “Both serve to set new standards for performance and sustainability of educational facilities in southern California.”

The San Diego Community College District had previously tapped McCarthy to build its new $28.9 million, 50,000-square-foot Allied Health Education and Training Facility at San Diego Mesa College in the Clairemont area of San Diego. Also funded by the Propositions S and N construction bond program, the Allied Health building successfully achieved LEED Gold Certification last year.

The four-story, above-grade Miramar College parking structure is constructed with poured-in-place, reinforced concrete. The scope of work for McCarthy included all related site work, including installation of drought-tolerant landscaping and high-efficiency irrigation systems that use reclaimed water.

The adjacent single-story police substation will provide a central hub for campus safety and security, wayfinding and parking permitting. The facility encompasses a reception area, conference room, office areas, and a secure suspect processing area. These spaces are organized along the building’s perimeter to provide a welcoming, well-lit area that maximizes natural daylight. The terra cotta façade helps tie the new facility to the look and feel of the existing buildings on campus.

Key to its sustainable design is a green roof grid system, which covers the majority of the roof deck. The grid system uses modular panels for ease of installation, roof access and maintenance. A green screen, designed to achieve the look of a vertical garden, covers the west elevation of the parking structure. The vegetation used will contribute to a microclimate that is central to the facility’s passive thermal and natural ventilation design.

The xeriscape plants incorporated into the roof system significantly reduced the need for stormwater infrastructure conveyance and retention systems. They also will help remove impurities from storm-water runoff, while reducing maintenance costs for filtration systems.

Additionally, the green roof and wall systems will help reduce the heat island effect and complement the benefits of the pervious pavement used in the parking area. The green screen on the west elevation of the parking structure will further contribute to lower ambient heat gain, both within the police substation and the new parking structure.

The tower element serves as a solar chimney – a passive solar strategy used to create a flow of natural ventilation. The top of the tower will heat up, and louvers will provide for air exhaust at the high point. Inside the building, exposed concrete walls and ceiling will create a thermal mass that can store heat during the day, and release it during the night to keep the building comfortable during operating hours.

An array of other sustainable design features factor into the building’s LEED Platinum level of sustainable design, including the terra cotta rain screens that create a vented facade and increase building envelope energy efficiency; curtain walls that have horizontal exterior siding on the south, vertical fins on the east, and a large glazed area facing north; operable windows that provide natural ventilation; Solatube skylights that capture natural light and enhance occupants’ work conditions; use of reclaimed water for flushing toilets; and suspended ceiling “clouds” that enhance acoustical performance while serving as reflectors for daylight.

Still more green features include “cradle to cradle” certified finish materials, renewable and recycled flooring, and low-emitting casework materials. The reception area of the police substation showcases a recessed, interactive flat screen panel that informs visitors of the building’s sustainable features, and reinforces Miramar College’s sustainability goals.

Working collaboratively with the District and the Campus Police Department was paramount to the success of the project, explained McCarthy Project Director Bob Betz.

“Numerous coordination meetings were held throughout the design phase of the project to ensure that the requirements of the District and the users were integrated into the design, all while retaining the sustainable features needed to achieve LEED Platinum Certification,” said Betz. “The McCarthy team is very proud to have completed the parking structure and the police station ahead of schedule, and to have played a role in the design and construction of one of the most sustainable projects on any of SDCCD’s campuses.”

One of the District’s early design-build projects, Harley Ellis Devereaux, served as the architect for the police substation, and International Parking Design provided architectural services on the parking structure component. Jessen Wright Structural Engineers was the structural engineer; Randall Lamb Associates, electrical engineer; SC Engineers, mechanical engineer; and Burkett & Wong Engineers, civil engineer. Schmidt Design Group served as the landscape architect.

Gafcon, Inc. serves as the program manager for the Propositions S and N construction bond program.

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. one of the nation’s oldest and largest privately-held construction companies and a 100 percent employee-owned business, was honored last week with a 2011 Education Excellence Award from the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

Presented during the AGC Training, Education & Development Conference in Kansas City, the Education Excellence Awards recognize the most innovative and collaborative training and development programs in the construction industry. McCarthy was honored in the category of Supervisor-Executive Management for the firm’s Foundations of Leadership Training Program. This AGC award comes on the heels of McCarthy’s placement on the prestigious 2011 Training Magazine Top 125 list and recognition by Corporate University Xchange for training excellence and innovation earlier this year.

“The key to building great projects is building great professionals,” said AGC President Kristine Young. “McCarthy’s leadership training program is an example of how to turn tremendous talent into outstanding professionals.”

Founded as a family-owned business almost 150 years ago, McCarthy is one of the largest 100% employee-owned companies with an Employee Stock Ownership Plan in America today. The firm has long fostered a culture dedicated to continuous improvement, and “Learning” represents one of McCarthy’s six company Core Values.

“McCarthy transitioned from family to employee ownership in 2002,” explained McCarthy Chairman and CEO Mike Bolen. “This significant shift, together with a combination of company growth and retirements of a number of long-time leaders, resulted in our need to more aggressively prepare our high-potential employees for growth. The opportunities at McCarthy are vast and varied, and training these future leaders is an exciting part of our continuing success.”

The McCarthy Foundations of Leadership Program was designed to accelerate the advancement of high performers by challenging them early in their career to take charge of their own development through an orchestrated “peek behind the curtain” at the unique issues faced by the leaders of a multi-billion dollar general contractor. This fast-track approach was also designed to challenge these employees, keep them fully engaged in the company and heighten the overall level of professionalism in the industry.

“Our senior leadership is 100% behind the development of future leaders at McCarthy and actively participate in our Foundations program as instructors,” noted McCarthy Vice President of Human Resources Al Berardi. “We have invested an incredible amount of time to create an active learning experience that is both challenging and meaningful. To be honored by our national association for our efforts is especially meaningful.”

About the Associated General Contractors of America
The Associated General Contractors of America (AGC) is the leading association for the construction industry. Operating in partnership with its nationwide network of Chapters, the AGC provides a full range of services satisfying the needs and concerns of its members, thereby improving the quality of construction and protecting the public interest. The AGC represents more than 33,000 leading firms in the industry, including general contractors, specialty contractors, and service providers and suppliers.

About McCarthy
McCarthy is one of the nation’s oldest and largest domestic general contractors. While a formal McCarthy Training Program had been in place for decades, McCarthy formally launched an entirely revamped training program in 2008 under McCarthy Build U. Unusual in the construction industry and among best-in-class training programs outside of the construction industry, the McCarthy Build U framework provides the company with the structure, alignment, centralization and flexibility needed to personalize training to meet both individual and business needs. Repeatedly honored as a Best Place to Work, McCarthy is 100 percent employee owned.

McCarthy NM recently received top honors from the Associated General Contractors (AGC)-New Mexico when its membership voted McCarthy NM as the Industry Choice for “Outstanding General Contractor” at its 22nd annual awards gala. The firm was also recognized by the AGC–NM with two “Best Building” awards for excellence in construction. The projects honored as “Best Buildings” are the University of New Mexico Science and Math Learning Center and the University of New Mexico — Yale Parking Garage.

The AGC-NM names Industry Choice Award winners through a vote by the group’s membership. Industry Choice Award recipients are recognized for their pursuit of best practices in (1) approach to conducting business, (2) dealings with customers, clients, employees, and peers, and (3) quality performance with respect to products and/or services. McCarthy NM earned highest honors with the Outstanding General Contractor award in this category. AGC-NM also awards “Best Building” projects, which are judged and awarded based upon the complexity of the construction process, and project challenges, such as budget, site constraints, schedule, and project delivery method. This year, the awards gala also served as a benefit to the ACE Leadership High School – the acclaimed cutting-edge charter school founded by AGC-NM Building Branch as well as future leaders of the industry and the NM community.

“We are honored and humbled to be named Industry Choice Outstanding General Contractor by the AGC-NM,” said Dennis Tucker, executive VP of McCarthy NM. “This recognition by other contractors in New Mexico, along with two Best Building awards, reinforces our commitment to doing all we can to build a strong community in New Mexico.

“It’s also a point of pride for McCarthy NM to support the ACE Leadership High School, which assists in developing our future industry and community leaders,” added Jaime Garrido, director of client services for McCarthy NM.

The $15 million Science and Math Learning Center at the University of New Mexico (UNM) main campus in Albuquerque won first place in the “Best Buildings” – $10-$20 million category. The Center completes the transformation of the University’s western boundary, and serves as a gateway to the technological heart of the campus. The design of the 62,000-square-foot building unites the previously scattered mathematics department and integrates technology-rich chemistry and biology classrooms with a 200-seat auditorium, a visualization lab, “smart” classrooms, distance learning facilities, and a café. The integration of sustainable design and construction strategies positions the project to achieve LEED for Schools Gold from the U.S. Green Building Council.

The $12.8 million Yale Parking Garage, a state-of-the-art parking facility that added more than 780 parking spaces to the University of New Mexico’s main campus, was named runner-up in the same category (Best Building $10-$20 million). The six-story structure includes a pedestrian bridge from the third floor of the garage, providing direct access to the campus. Additionally, the top floor of the parking structure features a 180 kW photovoltaic solar array comprised of 840 individual panels that generate electricity for the university.

Other significant projects McCarthy NM has been involved with include: Presbyterian Rio Rancho (Rust) Medical Center; Presbyterian Main Campus East expansion, ER renovation, multiple floor renovations, and the addition of Rachel’s Courtyard; Hobbs Freshman High School; Hyatt Regency Tamaya Resort and Spa; New Mexico State University Arts Complex; Sandia Resort & Casino; Upper Fruitland Casino Water Treatment Plant, and numerous schools across the state.

About McCarthy NM
Founded in 1864, McCarthy is one of the oldest and largest privately held construction firms in the nation. The firm has been building in the New Mexico market since 1981, with the construction of an APS Absorber Foundation in the Four Corners area, followed by a Four Corners Foundation project for the Navajo Nation.

McCarthy completes the last 3,000 feet of Edward Jones Blvd. and a 1,515-space parking garage for Edward Jones – North Campus in St. Louis this month. The $22 million parking garage is the third and largest parking structure built so far by McCarthy for Edward Jones. The seven-story, architectural precast concrete structure includes three stair towers and two elevators. This phase of the road project completes the loop, connecting Edward Jones Blvd. to Investment Drive on the north end and Progress Parkway on the south end, which is located near the intersection of Interstate 270 and Dorsett Road.

The Loop Road project included coordination with the Missouri Department of Transportation, the city of Maryland Heights and with the construction of each building that has been built so far. This phase of the project began in April 2010 and included coordination with the construction of the parking structure.

An unusual amount of rock was encountered when McCarthy began drilling piers for the foundation of the parking structure last summer. Weather was a challenge last winter during precast erection and continued to pose a challenge in regards to site work, said McCarthy Project Manager Bryan Meyer:
“It was a tough winter with lots of rain and snow and continued to be a tough spring. Fortunately, we have a great team that works well together, and we all worked collectively to make up as much of the lost time as possible.”

Edward Jones (www.edwardjones.com) provides financial services for individual investors in the United States and, through its affiliate, in Canada. Every aspect of the firm’s business, from the types of investment options offered to the location of branch offices, is designed to cater to individual investors in the communities in which they live and work. The firm’s 12,000-plus financial advisors work directly with nearly 7 million clients to understand their personal goals — from college savings to retirement — and create long-term investment solutions that emphasize a well-balanced portfolio and a buy-and-hold strategy.

McCarthy is the largest commercial builder in St. Louis and one of the oldest privately held construction firms in the nation. A 100 percent employee-owned company with national headquarters in St. Louis, the company has additional offices in Atlanta, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Dallas, Houston, Newport Beach, San Diego, San Francisco and Sacramento.

McCarthy recently completed construction on the new 2.3 million-square-foot Terminal 3 parking structure at McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas. The eight-level parking structure provides an additional 6,000 parking spaces for travelers of the soon to be completed Terminal 3.

Construction of the $121.7 million parking structure began in December 2008 and McCarthy logged more than 300,000 man hours of self-performed concrete work with no loss of time injuries. One of the nation’s leading parking structure builders, McCarthy’s successful completion of several key project milestones enabled the firm to deliver the project on time and on budget.

“I have personally worked on several hundred parking projects, and the McCarran T3 Garage stands above them all as the most successful project,” said Robert E. Stanley, director of operations for Walker Parking Consultants.
“McCarthy was able to deliver another high quality, constructed garage on time and on budget, and I am glad to have had the McCarthy team on board.”

Construction of the parking structure consisted of 126 structural post-tensioned garage deck pours with an additional 14 pours for the structure’s circular concrete helix entry ramp. McCarthy maintained an accelerated schedule by pouring one concrete deck every other day. Additionally, the project team used pre-fabricated reinforcing cages in the concrete decks and a concrete mixture that achieved a very high, early strength. A schedule was also put in place to utilize the number of sets of formwork to help gain days, which helped lead to an early completion. McCarthy used 3,703 tons of elevated architectural precast concrete which is the equivalent of 46 commercial 737 aircrafts.

The McCarthy team also performed several other construction details that are not typically done on an average parking structure. For instance, crews painted the structure’s overhead and ceilings and installed several high-end finishes including:

4,200 silver metallic and desert rose aluminum metal panels

315 decorative precast panels

1,972 cubic yards of tan-colored concrete

3,000 interior lights

“I am extremely proud of the team that we put together on this project,” said Paul Dudzinski, McCarthy project manager. “They have done a tremendous job of working together and working safe given the overall magnitude of the project and the complexity of the self-perform concrete. We have a really sharp team that learned even more as it relates to concrete work, and has produced a very high-quality concrete structure that I am proud to put McCarthy’s name on.”

Located just north of the new Terminal 3 building, the eight-level-car parking structure is one of the largest parking facilities in the United States, spanning approximately 270’ wide by 1024’ long. In addition to providing spaces for employee parking, valet parking, and both short and long term public parking, the project also includes construction of an 11,275-square-foot, single level office building, toll plaza and roadway for passenger pickup and drop off.

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., one of Southern California’s preeminent parking structure and hospital building contractors, recently completed construction of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital parking structure and life-saving helipad. Located on the hospital’s 1.9-acre site in Santa Clarita, Calif., the $10.1 million parking facility is the first major component of a 15-year master plan for the overall campus.

“The new parking structure will significantly improve parking conditions for hospital patients, visitors and staff,” said Roger E. Seaver, president and CEO of Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital. “The return of the helipad will allow Henry Mayo to retain its designation as the only trauma center in the Santa Clarita Valley and will provide immediate and life-saving air transport to patients suffering traumatic injuries or illness — thereby giving the best possible chance for survival and recovery.”

McCarthy served as general contractor and SHP Project Development was the construction manager for the 244,135-square-foot structure, which opened on May 2, 2011. The helipad is planned to open this month after inspection and approval from CalTrans. The six level parking structure with one subterranean level, was constructed with post-tensioned, cast-in-place concrete decks and shear walls. One of the parking structure’s three elevators was built to serve as a trauma elevator for the rooftop helipad. This temporary location for the helipad will service the existing trauma center until the permanent helipad is constructed as part of the new patient tower.

Designed by Irvine-based Choate Parking Consultants, the parking structure includes extensive landscape with more than 600 shrubs and plants, and 50 crape myrtle, sycamore and pine trees. Other features include pathways for pedestrians, landscaping and an architectural design, which complements the surrounding buildings and community aesthetics.

“Construction of the new parking structure within a heavily trafficked area on an operational hospital campus offered logistical challenges,” said McCarthy Project Manager Bill Gray. “McCarthy used temporary road closures and barricades to allow activity to continue on the three surrounding sides and major thoroughfare. McCarthy also mitigated the impact of construction by scheduling construction deliveries during non-peak traffic hours, coordinating construction traffic operations with hospital facilities personnel and governing agencies, and scheduling offsite work that required lane closures at night.”

Scripps Health is the developer of the $10,278,964 design-build parking structure, which replaced a surface parking lot. The project represents the first phase of a planned $200 million expansion of the Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas campus. Future expansion plans call for construction of a two-story, 60,000-square-foot critical care building that will house 27 emergency department beds on the first floor and 36 private acute care beds on the second floor. Farther-reaching plans include expansion for outpatient services, medical office space and additional critical care and inpatient beds to serve the community well into the future.

The new 278,000-square-foot parking structure accommodates five levels of parking, including one subterranean and one rooftop level. The structure consists of Class II cast-in-place reinforced concrete, which McCarthy self-performed. The exterior features a combination of concrete and EIFS synthetic stucco. The scope of work on this project by McCarthy also entailed related site work, including landscaping, installation of irrigation systems, and significant rerouting of existing utilities.

An official grand opening ceremony for the new parking structure was hosted by Scripps Health on April 29, 2011, and was followed by a gala reception that evening to honor the private donors, staff, physicians and community members who are making the campus expansion possible. Earlier this month, Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas received a $5 million gift from a charitable Rancho Santa Fe family, bringing the total amount of philanthropic gifts raised for the hospital’s growth plan to $25 million.

“We’re exceptionally grateful to the individuals and families who have supported our organization’s mission to provide an unprecedented level of health care to the San Diego community,” said Carl Etter, chief executive of Scripps Health. “The completion of the new parking structure at Scripps Encinitas is a major milestone reached in our overall expansion plan. We’re very pleased with McCarthy’s performance and how well this construction project turned out.”

The construction site for the new parking structure was in the heart of the existing hospital campus, and therefore posed significant ingress/egress and subcontractor scheduling challenges. According to McCarthy Project Director Robert Betz, McCarthy worked closely with Scripps Health to devise and implement a plan that minimized disruption to ongoing traffic and activities at the hospital during construction, and created a highly favorable outcome. The project was successfully accomplished within budget and a short, 12-month construction timeline.

“An interesting aspect of this construction project was that it benefited a large section of Encinitas shoreline,” said Betz. “Working with the City of Encinitas, we hauled approximately 16,000 cubic yards of excavated, good-quality sand to Moonlight Beach to replace sand lost to erosion. The operation proved worthwhile and will ultimately provide considerably more play area for beachgoers.”

International Parking Design is the architect-of-record. Jessen-Wright was the structural engineer, E3 Design Group was the electrical engineer, B&P Associates was the mechanical engineer, and Latitude 33 served as the civil engineer. M.W. Peltz & Associates was the landscape architect.

The Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas expansion is part of numerous improvements being made throughout the Scripps Health System. McCarthy just began construction for the new 383,000-square-foot Scripps Cardiovascular Institute and adjacent 26,000-square-foot Central Energy Plant on the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla campus, in La Jolla, Calif. Construction of this new $456 million, state-of-the-art facility is scheduled for completion in January 2015.

Scripps Health also contracted McCarthy for the 13,796-square-foot expansion of the Scripps Mercy Hospital Emergency Department in central San Diego. This project involved realignment of Fifth Avenue, which constituted phase one. McCarthy crews have topped out steel on the new addition, named the Conrad Prebys Emergency and Trauma Center, which comprises phase two and is scheduled for completion in December of this year. Phase three will involve remodeling of the existing Emergency Department and exterior parking lot.

About Scripps Health
Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas is one of five acute care hospital campuses in the Scripps Health system, a non-profit health care organization based in San Diego, Calif. In 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011, Scripps was named a 100 Best Companies to Work For® by FORTUNE magazine. Scripps Memorial Hospital Encinitas is North San Diego County’s first certified primary stroke center, first World Health Organization designated baby-friendly hospital in San Diego, and the only CARF-accredited brain injury program in San Diego, Imperial and Riverside counties. Scripps Encinitas has served the growing communities of San Diego’s North County since 1978.

McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. (www.mccarthy.com), one of the nation’s top green commercial builders, has completed the task of getting all of its current LEED Accredited Professionals (AP) to acquire the new specialty accreditation LEED AP BD+C (building design and construction). McCarthy is the largest contractor to date to complete such a significant acquisition through the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), confirming the builder’s commitment to the new Credentialing Maintenance Program. Credential maintenance is the continuing education completed by LEED Professionals to maintain current knowledge of green building practices and LEED in a constantly evolving industry. Because of McCarthy’s encouragement, approximately 400 of their employees now hold the new LEED AP BD+C credential.

“McCarthy’s commitment to providing its staff with the preeminent designation for professionals — the LEED AP BD+C — shows leadership and a steadfast commitment to transforming the built environment,” said Beth Holst, vice president, GBCI. “Earning a LEED Credential demonstrates a comprehensive and current knowledge of green building technologies and best practices, and is a mark of excellence for green building professionals in the marketplace.”

Over the next two years, all McCarthy LEED AP’s will complete the required 30 hours of training through the McCarthy Green Curriculum to maintain the new credential. Existing green training programs typically focus on design issues. The McCarthy Green Curriculum is unique, presented from the builder’s perspective. This curriculum focuses on what McCarthy and the building team can do during design, construction and operations to have a positive impact on the sustainability of the project.

In addition to employee training, McCarthy’s commitment to sustainability requires continual review of day-to-day operations affecting the environment to look for different ways to do the same or more, while reducing the environmental impact. McCarthy has also implemented the following:

Policies—McCarthy has established office, field, wellness and transportation policies to track and reduce the firm’s impact on the environment. These include use of recycled materials and improving fleet efficiency every year.

Carbon Footprint—McCarthy has adopted a carbon footprint methodology, established a company baseline and is working towards a 5% reduction over the next five years.

Leadership—In addition to sustainable leadership at the national level, each McCarthy project has an identified sustainability leader and champion.

“Green building techniques and materials are being incorporated into every one of our projects today, and clients and partners need a builder they can count on,” explained McCarthy Vice President, Quality and Sustainability Chad Dorgan. “The GBCI program provides a consistent framework for our industry and at the same time provides owners with a green standard they can trust. By upgrading all of our employees, we are providing this same level of consistency for all clients nationwide.”

About McCarthy
McCarthy is one of the nation’s oldest and largest privately held commercial construction companies. More than a decade ago, McCarthy formalized a national in-house green knowledge network to capture and build upon the best green practices across the country. Today, the McCarthy Green Team is comprised of approximately 400 USGBC LEED Accredited Professionals (ranking the company in the top 10 for LEED AP’s by Building Design and Construction and among the nation’s Top 20 Green Construction Companies in America by Engineering News-Record). The firm’s resumé of sustainable projects is valued at over $6 billion. Nationally recognized on the Training 125 list for the firm’s outstanding employee training and development programs, McCarthy is 100 percent employee owned.

McCarthy was honored this week with a 2011 Corporate University Xchange (CorpU) Award for Excellence and Innovation. This award recognizes outstanding work in corporate learning and talent development and comes on the heels of McCarthy’s placement on the prestigious 2011 Training 125 list earlier this year. The awards were presented during the Global Leadership Congress 2011, a 3-day symposium co-sponsored by CorpU and the University of Pennsylvania. A first-time applicant, McCarthy was honored with a Best Practice award in the Launching Category.

The CorpU Awards salute corporate and government learning organizations that create exciting, impactful programs resulting in measurable improvements in employee and business performance. Since 1999, the Awards, given by CorpU, the leading provider of corporate education research, benchmarking and advisory services for the enterprise learning marketplace, have set the standard for corporate learning.

“The winning programs show how important learning excellence is in enabling companies to execute their business strategy,” said Peter McAteer, CEO of CorpU. “We congratulate them.”

“Operating in today’s business world is more complicated than ever,” commented McCarthy Chairman and CEO Mike Bolen. “Through McCarthy Build U® we are able to provide our employee-owners with a comprehensive training and development program designed to result in both short- and long-term success. To be included among this year’s CorpU Xchange award winners is truly an honor.”

Founded as a family owned business almost 150 years ago, McCarthy is one of the largest 100% employee-owned companies in America today. The firm has long fostered a culture dedicated to continuous improvement, and “Learning” represents one of McCarthy’s six company Core Values.

About Corporate University Xchange
