McCarthy recently received a distinguished People Helping People (PHP) Award from the Sacramento Community Services Planning Council. The PHP Awards recognize excellence in community service. Eleven honorees were selected from a field of 68 nominees. McCarthy was the winner in the “Hands On Sacramento” category, which honors encouragement of employee volunteerism, for its Heart Hats community outreach program.

McCarthy Gives Green Building a Boost by Adding the LEED AP BD+C Specialty Credential Company-wide
McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. (www.mccarthy.com), one of the nation’s top green commercial builders, has completed the task of getting all of its current LEED Accredited Professionals (AP) to acquire the new specialty accreditation LEED AP BD+C (building design and construction). McCarthy is the largest contractor to date to complete such a significant acquisition through the Green Building Certification Institute (GBCI), confirming the builder’s commitment to the new Credentialing Maintenance Program. Credential maintenance is the continuing education completed by LEED Professionals to maintain current knowledge of green building practices and LEED in a constantly evolving industry. Because of McCarthy’s encouragement, approximately 400 of their employees now hold the new LEED AP BD+C credential.

McCarthy Wins Bid for Georgia State University Humanities-Law Building
The Southeast Division of McCarthy announces the company’s selection as Construction Manager for Georgia State University’s Humanities-Law Building located in downtown Atlanta. The Humanities-Law Building marks McCarthy’s second project with the esteemed research university, following on the heels of the completion of the award-winning Parker H. Petit Science Center completed in 2010. Scheduled to begin construction in 2012, the Humanities-Law Building will be pursuing LEED certification pursuant to the U.S. Green Building Council upon its completion.
McCarthy Walks the Walk for Employee Health
McCarthy, one of the nation’s largest employee-owned construction companies, will be honored this weekend as a Start! Fit-Friendly Company by the American Heart Association (AHA). McCarthy Central Division President Scott Wittkop will receive the Gold-level award during the AHA 2011 Metro St. Louis Start! Heart Walk opening festivities on Saturday, May 14 in Busch Stadium. Start! Fit-Friendly Companies are recognized by the AHA as employers who go above and beyond when it comes to employee health.
McCarthy’s Texas Division Starts Richland Chambers Wetlands: Phase II
McCarthy recently started on the second phase of a project for Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) to create 1,300 acres of wetlands near the Richland-Chambers Reservoir. Upon completion, this will be the second largest wetlands construction project in the United States.
