McCarthy “Heart Hats” Put Military Veterans First

As the 10-year anniversary of the war in Afghanistan and Iraq approaches, thoughts turn to men and women who have risked their lives and left their families at home to serve and protect all of our families. The McCarthy Heart Hats volunteers in Newport Beach, Calif., McCarthy’s employee volunteer group, have been reaching out to help military personnel and their families over the last several years through clothing and holiday toy drives as well as other service activities. After learning more about the plight of homeless and disabled veterans in Orange County, they wanted to do even more to help these forgotten and neglected heroes who have found themselves on hard times.

Can Color Help Kids With Cancer?

One Design Expert Uses Color & Miracle Room Makeovers to Help All Kids Be Healthier

The month of September has been officially designated National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. As a precursor to this month’s observance, interior design expert Kelee Katillac and a team of Heart Hat volunteers from McCarthy, one of America’s leading hospital builders, completed a therapeutic Miracle Room Makeover for an 8-year-old, St. Louis-area boy suffering with brain tumors.

Construction of Mosswood Park Tot Lot in Oakland Completed

Community leaders, city officials and neighborhood residents inaugurated the opening of a new tot lot at Mosswood Park in Oakland, Calif., during a ribbon cutting ceremony on Aug. 26, the same day that 220 volunteers participated in the annual Mosswood Park volunteer cleanup event.

The tot lot, near the newly refurbished basketball courts, is the latest sign of the urban park’s steady transformation. Under the firm’s “Heart Hats” volunteer program, McCarthy led the tot lot’s construction efforts as part of an on-going collaborative Mosswood Park renovation and beautification initiative between Kaiser Permanente, McCarthy, the City of Oakland and neighborhood residents. Mosswood Park is adjacent to Kaiser Permanente’s future Oakland Medical Center, on which McCarthy serves as the project’s general contractor.
