McCarthy Builds Accessibility Ramp with Heart

Through the McCarthy Heart Hats community involvement program, the firm’s Kansas City team recently donated its construction expertise with HopeBUILDERS to build a wheelchair ramp for the home of a local family with a four-year-old child with Cerebral Palsy. The ramp was funded by VarietyKC, which provides children with developmental disabilities adaptive equipment and opportunities for activity and inclusion.

HopeBUILDERS is the only non-profit home repair group in Kansas City that provides accessibility modifications to the entire metro area all year round. Each ramp constructed is designed to fit a particular need, client and property. "We enjoyed working with the motivated and skilled group of McCarthy volunteers,” said HopeBUILDERS Executive Director, Greg Wayne. “We look forward to partnering with them again soon.”

“There is never a shortage of McCarthy volunteers who believe in giving their skills and time to those who need it most,” says Steve Mueschke, vice president of McCarthy in Kansas City. “HopeBUILDERS is an ideal organization for us to take what we do every day and make a positive difference in the lives of others, especially for children.”

Hard-working hands and charitable hearts come together to give back through McCarthy’s national “Heart Hats” community involvement program. This initiative, embraced nationally by the 152-year-old construction company, gives staff paid time off to volunteer for a special cause in their area. Many of the company’s community volunteering and charitable contribution are centered around children-focused organizations and missions.
