McCarthy Celebrates Topping Out of UNLV Hotel Academic Building

University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Hospitality Hall

The University of Nevada Las Vegas (UNLV) Hospitality Hall is one step closer to completion as McCarthy hoisted the final piece of structural steel during the University’s topping out celebration. UNLV faculty and staff, donors and construction workers gathered to sign the last beam before it was raised and secured into place during the event.

“This a great milestone for McCarthy, our Subcontractors, the State Public Works Department, and UNLV,” said Paul Dudzinski, McCarthy project director. “It’s exciting to bring this world-class academic structure right to the heart of this amazing campus. We know it will play an integral role in shaping the next generation of students pursuing careers globally in the hospitality and gaming industry.”

Designed by Carpenter Sellers Del Gatto Architects, the new 93,500-square-foot learning center will blend a state-of-the-art academic building with a resort style design. Featuring convertible/interactive classrooms, a student run café, a PGA Golf Management learning center and multiple common spaces for students and educators to mingle and collaborate, the new Hospitality Hall will help set a new standard of excellence in hospitality education.

“We could not be more excited about this new home for our students, who are the future leaders of the hospitality industry,” said Harrah Hotel College Dean Stowe Shoemaker. “We also can’t wait to invite industry partners, alumni, and friends to collaborate with us in this dynamic learning space.”

McCarthy broke ground on the project in early spring and has remained on schedule for a January 2018 opening. The new Hospitality Hall is also on track to receive LEED® Silver certification upon completion.
