McCarthy Earns Highest ADOSH Distinction 2016
McCarthy’s Southwest Division, based in Phoenix, was recently designated a “STAR Site” through the Arizona Division of Occupational Safety and Health’s (ADOSH) Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). Companies, general contractors and job-sites that are awarded the STAR designation demonstrate exemplary and comprehensive safety and health management systems.
McCarthy’s Southwest Division is currently managing numerous projects throughout the Arizona in education, healthcare, solar and private-sector industries. Over the past three years, five McCarthy Southwest’s projects were visited by the ADOSH Consultation Department.
“Safety is truly our number one priority with every job,” said McCarthy Southwest President Bo Calbert. “At the end of the day, we want our employees to go home safely and we want our jobsites to be secure. Safety is engrained in our employee culture, so this STAR designation validates what we focus on every day.”
VPP STAR designation is the Occupational Safety and Health Administration's (OSHA) highest program of safety recognition across all federal OSHA and state plan state OSHA offices. It recognizes employers and workers in private and federal workplaces who have exemplified effective safety and health management systems that achieve injury and illness rates more than 50 percent below the national average.
"The McCarthy projects were all great examples of how management and employees were involved with safety through active participation in the complete safety and health program," said Jessie Atencio, assistant director for ADOSH. "Their team should be proud to be one of five construction companies in Arizona that has achieved this level of recognition."
"McCarthy has earned this distinction through their relentless effort in keeping employees safe", said Industrial Commission Chairman Dale Schultz. "Partnering with businesses to achieve the highest safety standards is a process whereby employers, employees, and the agency all win."
