McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., one of California’s preeminent commercial builders, announced today that Mike Myers has assumed the position of president of the firm’s Southern California region. Myers moves into this role following a transition period with Randy Highland, the company’s former regional president. Highland will be officially retiring in August 2018, after 29 years at McCarthy.

Based in the firm’s Newport Beach office, Myers is responsible for the financial performance and overall operations of McCarthy in Southern California. These duties include participation on McCarthy’s executive committee and board as well as overseeing the marketing, estimating, scheduling, safety, administrative and financial functions throughout the region, which includes the firm’s full-service Newport Beach and San Diego offices.

“Mike is an exceptional leader whose creativity and client-focused approach will serve the Southern California marketplace well,” said McCarthy Chairman and CEO Michael Bolen. “He brings a passion for building and an innovative drive that will continue to help McCarthy exceed client expectations in the region.”

With more than two decades of experience in the industry, Myers began his construction career with McCarthy as an intern while earning his construction engineering and management degree from Purdue University. He joined McCarthy full time as a project engineer in 1998, departing briefly to help start up a small general contracting firm prior to joining Castle Contracting, LLC in 2001 as a project manager/estimator. While at Castle, Myers was instrumental in helping grow the business and in 2006, Myers was promoted to vice president and eventually named chief operating officer in 2008. In 2014, McCarthy acquired Castle and Myers returned to McCarthy. In 2016 Myers was named McCarthy executive vice president and a member of the McCarthy Executive Committee.

“Mike is an entrepreneur at heart,” continued Bolen. “He was instrumental in helping grow Castle from a regional contractor into a national business. This experience, combined with his deep understanding of McCarthy both as an employee and industry partner, offers a unique perspective that will benefit clients, trade partners and our employee-owners in the region.”

“Owners in Southern California want an innovative construction partner who listens carefully and is committed to working collaboratively to help them achieve their business goals,” commented Mike Myers. “McCarthy has been delivering construction solutions to clients throughout the region since we opened our Newport Beach office nearly 35 years ago. I’m looking forward to leading McCarthy’s Southern California team as we strive to continue to deliver exceptional results today and for many years to come.”
