Omaha Project Team Hosts ACE Mentor Tours at Two School Construction Sites

Omaha World-Herald

As part of its involvement with the new Omaha, Neb., affiliate to the national ACE (Architecture, Construction, Engineering) Mentor Program that launched early 2017, the McCarthy team working on renovation and addition projects at Norris Middle School and Beveridge Magnet School facilitated tours of the active construction sites for 77 high school students.

An initiative McCarthy is invested in nationally — and was integral in founding in Omaha — the ACE Mentor Program introduces high school students to career opportunities in architecture, construction and engineering through field trips, exciting projects and engaging activities.

For 12 weeks, students from Omaha Public Schools and District 66 received hands-on mentoring from 45 industry professionals, including McCarthy’s Ryan Sawall and Kris Montgomery. In May, the inaugural year of the ACE Mentor Program of Greater Omaha culminated with 70 students presenting architectural renderings and design solutions for OPS Norris Middle School, a $26.5 million project McCarthy will complete in fall 2017. The ACE Mentor Program of Greater Omaha also financially supported students by awarding five $4,000 scholarships to encourage post-secondary pursuits in design and construction.
