Queen Creek Unified School District Breaks Ground
Queen Creek Unified School District (QCUSD) and partners McCarthy and ADM Group Inc. broke ground on the yet-to-be-named Elementary School No. 6 campus in Queen Creek, Ariz., on Nov. 15, 2017.
The project represents a new $15.5 million, 85,000-square-foot elementary school campus to meet the school district’s growing student population in the area. The new school includes a media center, combined cafeteria and gymnasium space with rooms for music and band, 22 classrooms ranging from Pre-K to 5th Grade, as well as a Maker’s Space Lab and Computer Lab. The site will also have baseball and soccer fields, in addition to playground areas and an outdoor learning space.
“Our dynamic, high-tech, impressive design of this new school reflects the educational experience students are offered throughout Queen Creek Unified School District,” said Ben Barcon with ADM Group Inc.
The district’s plans for Elementary School No. 6 incorporate a focus on STEAM learning (science, technology, engineering, arts and math).
“We have a very strong academic tradition within the Town of Queen Creek and we are excited to bring this mastery learning model and STEAM focus to the community,” said Dr. Perry Berry, QCUSD Superintendent.
Completion of the school is slated for June 2018 in time for the start of the 2018-19 school year. “The Education Services team at McCarthy is excited to work with the district and ADM Group on this project and incorporate hands-on STEAM learning activities with QCUSD students,” said David Peterson, senior vice president of operations for the Education Services team at McCarthy. “This new school will provide a modern facility for 21st century learning, which the community of Queen Creek will be proud of for years to come.”
