Team Puts Hearts into Pool Deck for KC Family

Swimming is one of the few activities 7-year-old Bo can enjoy. Bo, who also goes by the nickname of “Super Bo,” has rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes, epilepsy and growth hormone deficiency, making swimming with his siblings one of the few things he can do without pain. With the help of his community, he now has a pool of his own.

Initially, the Macan family tried to partner with a non-profit agency to build a pool for Bo last winter, but it didn’t go as planned. That’s when the community came together once again to make sure Bo got the pool he needed. The McCarthy Mortenson Joint Venture team, working on the National Bio and Agro-defense Facility project in Manhattan, Kan., stepped up to build the deck around the pool. Just hours after heavy rain, the team went to work and spent two days building the deck.
