Training Magazine Ranks McCarthy Building Companies, Inc. Among Top 10 Training Organizations
McCarthy Building Companies, Inc., one of America’s premier commercial construction companies, was honored Monday night with a 2014 Training magazine Top 125 Award. As the highest ranking construction company, McCarthy held the #6 spot again on this year’s list. This represents the fourth year McCarthy has received this prestigious recognition and the third year in a row the firm has placed in the top 10. In addition to this placement, McCarthy earned a special Training Top 125 Best Practice Award for the firm’s effective Change Management and Technology Training Initiatives.
Presented during the Training 2014 Conference & Expo in San Diego, the Top 125 awards recognize the leading training organizations based on excellence in employer-sponsored training and development programs. “Kudos to the 2014 Training Top 125 winners,” commented Lorri Freifeld, editor-in-chief of Training magazine. “They demonstrated an unrelenting focus on effective training and employee development tied to corporate strategic goals and measurable results.”
“In 2014, McCarthy is celebrating 150 years of building America,” explained McCarthy Chairman and CEO Mike Bolen. “Certainly much has changed since our early days, but the focus on developing the best builders in the business has never waned. We know we are helping train the individuals who will be partnering with our clients to build America going forward, and we are honored to again be included among the Training Top 125 for our efforts.”
Founded as a family-owned business 150 years ago, McCarthy is one of the largest 100% employee-owned companies in America today. The firm has long fostered a culture dedicated to continuous improvement, and “Learning” represents a critical facet of our ongoing goal to be The Best Builder in America. While a formal McCarthy Training Program had been in place for decades, McCarthy launched an entirely revamped training program in 2008 under McCarthy Build U®. Unusual in the construction industry and among best-in-class training programs outside of the construction industry, McCarthy Build U is a personalized approach to employee development. Through a comprehensive array of in-person, online and self-directed training opportunities, employees are empowered to take control of their personal and professional development. Ensuring the safety of all individuals who work on or near all McCarthy project sites is the firm’s number one priority. This vigilant approach to safety is supported by McCarthy’s comprehensive Safety Training Program. Further, employees have access to an extensive on-the-job training program, as well as approximately 300 instructor-led classroom sessions, 150 instructor-led virtual classroom sessions and 300 online, self-paced modules focused on building, business and management skills.
“The effectiveness of our training program directly impacts McCarthy’s ability to execute high-quality work, attract and retain top talent, and deliver superior results for our clients.” commented McCarthy President and Chief Operating Officer Derek Glanvill. “Ultimately, we believe training is an investment in our future.”
About the Training 125
Now in its 14th year, the Training Top 125 ranking is based on myriad benchmarking statistics such as total training budget; percentage of payroll; number of training hours per employee program; goals, evaluation, measurement, and workplace surveys; hours of training per employee annually; and detailed formal programs. The ranking is determined by assessing a range of qualitative and quantitative factors, including financial investment in employee development, the scope of development programs, and how closely such development efforts are linked to business goals and objectives.
