Over the course of 2016, McCarthy and Silicon Ranch Corporation successfully completed five utility-scale solar energy projects in Northern Colorado that will play a key role in bringing clean energy solutions to the community for years to come. These projects will provide clean energy to power more than 5,000 homes in the area.

“We are proud to be able to partner with Silicon Ranch to create solar farms that are advancing the energy infrastructure of communities across Colorado,” said Kevin Williams, senior vice president for McCarthy in Colorado.

Largely located in Weld County, these utility-scale solar plants will be providing clean energy to Poudre Valley Rural Electric Association (PVREA) and United Power through Purchase Power Agreements with Silicon Ranch Corporation. The solar farms are estimated to power more than 5,000 homes for more than twenty years.

John Marcarelli, director of business development for Silicon Ranch’s Colorado operations, said, “As long-term owners of our projects, Silicon Ranch takes great pride in being active members in the communities we serve and are excited about the economic, environmental, and community benefits each of our projects will bring to Northern Colorado for decades to come.”

McCarthy served as the Engineer Procure Construct (EPC) contractor, and was responsible for the design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover of each project to its developer, Silicon Ranch, who will own and operate each facility for the duration. During construction, which occurred between September 2015 and December 2016, more than 500 workers were employed, the majority of whom were local area residents.

The following projects completed in 2016:

Skylark A, located near Severance, CO
4.08 MWac  (48,840 Panels)
September 2015 – January 2016

Skylark B, located near Severance, CO
2.0 MWac (23,760 Panels)
June 2016 – August 2016

Valley View, located in Greeley, CO
4.08 MWac (49,320 Panels)
September 2015 – January 2016

Mavericks, located near Mead, CO
6.25 MWac (75,960 Panels)
August 2016 – December 2016

Ft. Lupton, located in Ft. Lupton, CO
13.6 MWac (160,560 Panels)
September 2015 – May 2016

The partnership with Silicon Ranch aligns McCarthy with one of the nation’s largest independent solar power producers. Silicon Ranch has demonstrated its long-term commitment to the Colorado market and has emerged as a market leader in the region.

Nationally, McCarthy’s Renewable Energy team has completed more than 20 utility-scale solar installations in communities from coast to coast, representing a combined capacity of over 1 GW of clean energy production. McCarthy was named to the 2016 Solar Power World’s Top 500 solar contractors list, ranking #29.

In Colorado, McCarthy is kicking-off its first solar project of 2017 in Platteville, with construction of Rattlesnake, which will produce an estimated 16.0 MWAC using approximately 181,800 panels. This solar facility is also being built in partnership with Silicon Ranch for United Power and is expected to commence construction in March 2017.
