Bexar County IH-410 & San Pedro
McCarthy performed widening and complete reconstruction of a three-mile stretch of IH-410 and the intersection at San Pedro Avenue for TxDOT. This high-profile roadway project included construction of new frontage roads, new mainlanes, four new overpasses over San Pedro Avenue, a high-traffic city street which required extensive phased traffic management, and reconstruction of freeway mainlanes.
The project included phased construction of six bridges on drill shaft foundations totaling over 110,000 square feet of bridge deck: Two IH-410 mainlane bridges over San Pedro, two frontage road bridges over SanPedro, and two entrance ramp bridges - one from Blanco Road to 410 eastbound and one from McCullough Avenue to 410 westbound. The bridges also included a mixture of MSE, DS and Tieback retaining walls totaling nearly 130,000 square feet. The project also included widening of the IH-410 mainlanes from three to five lanes in each direction, widening of San Pedro Avenue from two to three lanes each direction, as well as traffic signals and illumination.
