McCarthy was hired by Omaha Public Schools to lead construction for the 48,325-square-foot renovation and addition of Norris Middle School. Significant improvements to the school included an upgrade of all existing classrooms, the addition of 21 new classrooms, a renovated gymnasium and relocation of the stage, renovated cafeteria and kitchen, replacement of flooring through most of the building and replacement of all walls. A hallway was also added to connect two separate wings of the school. In accordance with the bond issue, major MEP upgrades were completed, including an entirely new electrical and mechanical system: adding a new air conditioner and fire sprinklers. Exterior renovations included all new windows and replacement of 75% of the roof.
