The CHI Health Trinity St. Clairsville Neighborhood Hospital is a 20,000-square-foot, two-story acute care facility constructed on 3.5 acres in St. Clairsville, Ohio. This neighborhood hospital was designed to provide essential healthcare services to the local community while establishing a foundation for future expansion.
The McCarthy and Hoefer Welker design-build team provided comprehensive services including planning, design, agency review, equipment planning, construction and closeout services. The facility features a carefully planned program that includes an 11-bed emergency room, two operating rooms, six inpatient rooms for short stay services, imaging and laboratory services, and dedicated support spaces.
The project required extensive mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems to support advanced healthcare operations, including sanitary and storm sewer infrastructure, domestic water systems, locally generated steam, packaged DX rooftop units, a packaged chiller, medical gases, medium and low voltage electrical systems, lighting controls, hospital support systems and a building automation system.
The design-build approach enabled seamless integration between design and construction phases, ensuring optimal constructability and cost control. One of the key challenges addressed was designing the facility for future expansion capabilities. The team strategically arranged the building, program elements and infrastructure to accommodate existing structures and additional buildout on the property, providing CommonSpirit Health with flexibility to expand services as community needs evolve.
This neighborhood hospital serves as a major healthcare asset to St. Clairsville and surrounding communities, providing an environment that promotes the healing and spiritual wellness of patients, staff and visitors. The facility brings essential healthcare services closer to residents, reducing travel time for emergency care and routine medical services.
