BJ Peterson

As Chief Operating Officer of McCarthy's National Water Group, BJ provides executive oversight across the full project life cycle – from design and construction through start-up and commissioning – ensuring McCarthy's teams deliver consistent, high-quality outcomes for our clients nationwide.

BJ joined McCarthy in 2011 as a project engineer and rose steadily through operations leadership over more than a decade, advancing to Senior Vice President in 2022 before stepping into his current role as COO. Throughout that journey, he earned a reputation for bringing cost certainty, disciplined execution, and strong team development to some of McCarthy’s and the nation’s largest and most complex water projects.

BJ has spent his career building the operational backbone behind some of the most technically complex water and wastewater infrastructure in the country. His operational experience and focus on building high-performing teams have made him a trusted partner to clients, engineers, and project teams alike. 

He holds a Master’s and Bachelor’s of Science in Civil Engineering from Brigham Young University and is a member of the Water Environment Federation.
