The expansion and renovation of The University of Kansas Health System – South Kansas City Medical Pavilion has elevated the facility’s capacity to deliver exceptional patient care in a modern, efficient environment.
This $9.7 million project included a 5,200-square-foot expansion and a 20,000-square-foot renovation, transforming the infusion clinic space and primary care exam rooms to better serve patients, staff, and visitors.
A key component of the project was the construction of a state-of-the-art pharmacy, designed to meet current USP standards and support the highest levels of safety and quality in pharmaceutical care.
Working within an occupied facility, McCarthy Building Companies expertly managed complex phasing requirements, reconfiguring each phase to minimize disruption to ongoing operations. Through strategic planning and close coordination with the client, the team successfully accelerated the construction schedule, saving over one month in project time. This proactive approach enabled the facility to begin generating revenue earlier than anticipated and ensured that patients and staff could benefit from the upgraded spaces as soon as possible.
The South Kansas City Medical Pavilion Expansion stands as a testament to McCarthy’s expertise in healthcare construction, commitment to operational excellence, and dedication to enhancing the patient and caregiver experience through thoughtful, innovative solutions.
As this was our first project with The University of Kansas Health System, our team was fully committed to understanding and achieving their vision. The primary goal was to double their infusion capacity, ultimately enabling the health system to serve more members of the community and increase revenue. I am proud to share that we delivered the new infusion space three months ahead of schedule, reducing the overall project timeline by a full month. This accomplishment reflects our dedication to exceeding client expectations and making a meaningful impact on patient care.
