The Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) Ticketing Hall is a 35,000-square-foot renovation with a 10,000-square-foot addition to expand and upgrade operations at the airport’s primary entry point. Renovations significantly enhanced the traveler experience by doubling the queue space and relocating an elevator shaft to improve passenger circulation and spatial movement.
Designed to serve as a welcoming representation of the Reno-Tahoe region, interior colors, materials and flooring were all inspired by the natural landscapes of Lake Tahoe and the surrounding high desert. Additional upgrades to the Ticketing Hall included new public restrooms, ticketing kiosks, wayfinding signage, and a higher ceiling with natural daylight and added energy-efficient lighting that opens up the space.
With open and ongoing communication being key, the team coordinated daily with airlines and RTAA inside the Ticketing Hall to accommodate flight schedules while minimizing disruption to the active international airport. McCarthy also collaborated with another contractor completing upgrades to the curbside drop-off and pickup lanes in front of the Ticketing Hall. Both projects were completed in tandem, on time, under budget, and without disruptions to operations.
The expansion was the first completed phase of the Reno-Tahoe Airport Authority's (RTAA) MoreRNO Infrastructure Program, the airport’s billion-dollar, multi-year project aimed to meet the growing demand for air travel in the area. McCarthy is currently constructing the New Gen A&B Concourses, another impactful community project that will modernize and nearly double the size of the airport’s existing concourses.
