Through its partners at MC Industrial, McCarthy Building Companies is delivering a dual-fuel conversion at Ameren Missouri’s Audrain Energy Center in Vandalia, Missouri. The project will enable the natural gas simple-cycle facility's eight combustion turbine generators to run with added fuel oil capability—upgrades that aim to strengthen the power plant’s flexibility and performance during periods of peak energy demand.
Delivered using the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) method, the work includes construction of new fuel oil storage and demineralized water infrastructure, containment piping, a fuel-forwarding building and related electrical upgrades. By expanding the plant’s fuel options, the project will help Ameren maintain power generation during extreme winter conditions and other periods when natural gas may be limited. For the Vandalia community and the surrounding region, this investment supports a more resilient energy system to meet customer demand with greater dependability.
