Molson Coors Wastewater Treatment Plant

In Golden, Colorado, where Clear Creek runs alongside the iconic Rocky Mountain Metal Container (RMMC), water sets the foundation for everything Molson Coors makes. For over 70 years, the manufacturing plant's wastewater treatment operations have treated both the industrial flows from brewing and canning processes, as well as a significant share of the City of Golden's domestic wastewater, before returning that water to Clear Creek. As evolving Colorado water-quality requirements raise the bar for what treated water must achieve, the global drink and brewing company is modernizing its infrastructure that protects the area’s waterway.

McCarthy is helping bring Molson Coors' vision to life by building a new 31,920-square-foot, wastewater treatment building will support a new canning line and modernize the RMMC wastewater treatment processes. In addition to a general works scope, McCarthy's project team is:

• Performing all concrete, mechanical, plumbing and general works scopes
• Placing the mat foundation, vertical walls, and slab-on-grade to anchor the new wastewater treatment building
• Placing concrete foundations inside the operating RMMC
• Erecting the structural steel framing and topping with thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roofing
• Installing an insulated metal panel skin
• Constructing chemical storage containment walls
• Applying epoxy coatings to protect concrete and steel

Because construction is occurring on a compact site within an operating food and beverage facility, the team is relying on careful phasing, containment and coordination to keep the RMMC running safely throughout the project lifecycle. As work progresses, each completed upgrade stands as a lasting investment in cleaner water for Clear Creek and the Golden community it sustains.
