Planting Community Roots
McCarthy's commitment to Children's Mercy doesn't stop at the project fence line.
Volunteers from the construction team and others from our Kansas City office spent a day working in the community garden adjacent to the parking garage job site. We removed and rebuilt nine elevated planter beds and installed new gravel walking paths designed to improve wheelchair accessibility. The garden, which supports the therapeutic and community engagement mission of Children's Mercy, is now more accessible and welcoming to the patients, families and neighbors who use it.
As a community builder, it’s an honor to invest in the places we live and build in — one planter bed at a time.
The effort is part of McCarthy's Heart Hats® initiative, a national community engagement program that has donated more than $20 million and thousands of volunteer hours to organizations across the country since 2005.
