    Joe Brunsman serves as the business unit leader of the Infrastructure team for McCarthy in the Southwest. In this role, Joe is responsible for overseeing water and wastewater projects, airport projects and general civil projects within the region. His team offers general contracting, construction management, program management and design-build services for infrastructure projects in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Texas.  

    During his nearly 30 years in the construction industry, Joe has managed many of the firm’s largest construction projects. He started his career as an apprentice carpenter and joined McCarthy in 2008 as a project manager. Since then he has become one of the firm’s most experienced managers of large self-perform civil and concrete construction projects, working closely with owners, design teams and trade partners to deliver outstanding quality.

    Paul King has more than 15 years of business development and marketing experience for the construction industry where he has focused on healthcare, commercial, parking structure, education, and specialty projects. In his role as vice president, business development, he is responsible for overseeing the business development and marketing team in Southern California while maintaining client relationships, developing the strategy for project pursuits, building strong project pursuit teams and seeking out new business opportunities throughout the region.

    In addition to his responsibilities with McCarthy, Paul is a former board member of the Society for Marketing Professional Services Orange County and San Diego County Chapters and served as a committee member for Design-Build Institute of America Western Region. He also has been involved with various philanthropic programs including the Boys and Girls Club, Warrior Foundation Freedom Center, March of Dimes and the American Heart Association along with supporting the philanthropic efforts of McCarthy clients including Sharp Healthcare, Scripps Health and Rady Children’s Hospital.

    As Vice President, Ryan Sawall oversees McCarthy’s work for the Omaha and Kansas City offices, as well as leads business development and client service efforts in the western portion of the McCarthy Central Region. With more than a decade of McCarthy experience, he began as a project engineer, moving up to project superintendent, project manager and project director prior to assuming his current role.

    Along with being licensed as a Professional Mechanical Engineer, Ryan is LEED AP BD+C certified through the U.S. Green Building Council and also holds a certification as a Certified Healthcare Constructor (CHC) through the National Hospital Association. He is a former board member for the Nebraska Society of Healthcare Engineers. A strong local community supporter, he is passionate about introducing young adults to possible construction careers and assisting local, small and diverse construction companies as they grow in the industry.

    With nearly 25 years of experience in business development and marketing, Tuyet is vice president for business development in our San Francisco office and an Associate member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA). She has secured successful multi-million dollar healthcare and science & technology projects while directing overall development of strategic relationships with clients and analyzing market assessments. Other strengths include marketing plans and analysis, business development strategy and mentoring marketing and project staff on submittals.

    With nearly two decades of construction experience, Sean Miller’s career has encompassed managing operations and field construction teams on large, complex projects throughout Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Missouri, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and Wyoming. This broad, hands-on construction experience in a wide-range of markets and project delivery methods allows him to better advise and collaborate with clients and business partners through the design and construction phases of their projects. In his current role as business development director, Sean collaborates to help clients in healthcare, parking structures, justice, municipal and aviation achieve their business and community goals through construction projects. He is LEAN Green Certified through the University of Pittsburgh and holds a Healthcare Construction Certification.

    With more than 10 years in the construction industry, Nate is responsible for managing our strategic client relationships and market visibility in Nevada. With experience in aviation, infrastructure and K-12/higher education markets, he has assisted in delivering nearly $500 million of projects across the Southwest region by developing key relationships with owners, architects and subcontractor partners. Nate is a LEED Accredited Professional and was named Nevada Contractor Association’s 2017 Member of the Year. He is also active in a number of industry and community organizations, including the National Association of Industrial Office Properties and NCA Young Constructors Forum.

    Michael Benford is responsible for leading specific market initiatives for the Dallas Commercial Business Unit, Civil/Transportation Business Unit and McCarthy’s Southern Region as a whole. His market focuses include aviation, parking structures, civil/transportation and general commercial. Michael has more than 10 years of experience in the construction industry in roles ranging from project engineer to director, business development. In addition to his current responsibilities at McCarthy, he serves on committees for ACE Mentorship and the Design-Build Institute of America (DBIA).  He is also an active participant in the American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE) and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC).

    Jay Yost transitioned to the McCarthy business development team in 2017, bringing along a decade of construction and preconstruction experience from his career with the company. He began with McCarthy as a project engineer and ultimately served as preconstruction director before transitioning into his current role. He now focuses on the principles of stakeholder value and organizational effectiveness to develop and lead high-performing pursuit teams while building strong client relationships to seek out new business opportunities.

    Jay is an active board member with the CREATE Mentoring Program, which focuses on inspiring high school students interested in pursuing careers in the built environment. He also is a general board member for The Center for Fathers and Families.

    Alex Whiteside is responsible for establishing and maintaining strong relationships with new and existing commercial and education partners in McCarthy’s Central Region. With a background in heavy industrial, commercial and bridge construction, Alex brings this experience to the forefront while working closely with current and potential clients and partners to ensure that McCarthy is surpassing expectations. He worked previously as a construction development manager, project manager and project engineer and has done volunteer work with Big Brothers/Big Sisters of America in the St. Louis region.
