    As President Southwest Region, Justin Kelton has leadership responsibility for all commercial markets within the Southwest, including Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico and Colorado. His career with McCarthy began as a laborer on a hospital construction project. After several years in the trades and a stint in the United States Marine Corps, Justin became a project engineer in 2001 with McCarthy in the Southwest. He was quickly made a project director, and within a few years his professional construction career advanced him to vice president, senior vice president and executive vice president prior to him moving into his current role.

    Over the years, Justin’s leadership has been instrumental in developing and expanding the division’s education services, including the launch of Job Order Contracting. In addition, his leadership has been essential to growing McCarthy's national solar, healthcare, municipal and commercial market sectors. He enjoys nurturing trusted relationships with clients and community leaders, while fostering an environment where engaged teams excel. He is currently serving the community as a board member of the American Heart Association’s Greater Phoenix Chapter and the Support Sky Harbor Coalition and is a member of the Arizona Builder’s Alliance American Society of Civil Engineers and WESTMARC.

    Joe Brotherton manages business development for McCarthy’s renewable energy team based in Phoenix. In this role, he uses his deep experience in the solar industry to oversee the firm’s diverse portfolio of solar and energy related projects throughout the country, as well as pursue new business opportunities, including expanding McCarthy’s experience delivering solutions in the utility-scale battery storage market.

    Prior to joining McCarthy, Joe built and expanded a solar company focused on operations and maintenance service. He also oversaw technical solar designs and led the development of a proprietary, in-house operations and maintenance platform and SCADA business. Lastly, he managed all technical aspects of EPC work, such as module and invertor selection processes, and built a Network Operations Center to manage all logistical requirements for field work and response.

    Scott Canada oversees McCarthy’s renewable energy projects in the Southwestern U.S., with a focus on the solar marketplace. Since joining McCarthy’s Solar Team in 2009 as a preconstruction director, he has helped position McCarthy as an industry leader in solar design and construction. Scott has nearly two decades of experience in the energy industry and is certified as an Energy Manager and Power Quality Professional through the Association of Energy Engineers, along with holding his LEED AP BD+C designation.

    Early in his career, Scott gained renewable energy experience with renewable energy working for Arizona Public Service. He expanded his knowledge by managing large utility scale EPC solar projects and overseeing a detailed utility impact study on the value solar brings to utility distribution, transmission and generation systems. Today, Scott’s deep technical understanding of the solar marketplace is something clients and partners have come to count on in this continuously evolving marketplace.

    As Senior Vice President of Operations for McCarthy in the Southwest, Chris Nickle is responsible for healthcare, renewable energy, parking and other public projects in the region. Since joining McCarthy in 2000, he has accumulated a wealth of experience in complex construction projects with an emphasis on the healthcare sector and public projects. He has also been instrumental in expanding McCarthy’s solar construction team from a total of 21 MW projects in 2010 to more than 600 MW today.

    Chris is a member of the American Society for Healthcare Engineering, Central Arizona Society for Healthcare Engineering and the Arizona Builders Alliance. In addition, he is a board member for East Valley Partnership. Chris was named one of the “Top 20 under 40” professionals in 2014 by Engineering News-Record Southwest.

    With nearly two decades of experience in the engineering and construction industry, Guy Voss directs strategic planning and new market growth for McCarthy’s water group. He brings a deep understanding of the complex intricacies involved in large-scale water and wastewater projects, in addition to projects in the renewable energy, telecommunications and smart infrastructure market sectors. Guy also has extensive experience leading alternative delivery contracts involving multiple project partners in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) services.

    Before joining McCarthy, Guy last served as program manager in New York City for a $600 million private construction project. A Professional Engineer, he is a member of the American Water Works Association, Water Environmental Federation, American Society of Civil Engineers and the American Public Works Association.

    Dr. David J. Peterson oversees operations, strategic planning and new market growth for McCarthy’s Education team in the Southwest. He joined the firm in 2015, bringing more than 30 years of experience as an engineer, planner, project manager, educator administrator and construction industry leader. In his current role, David puts this depth of experience to work to assist clients and teams better understand the needs of school districts, teachers, administrators and the communities they serve in developing solutions to efficiently fulfill their campus building and educational goals.

    In addition to his role with McCarthy, David is involved with numerous boards and community groups including the Association of School Business Officials International, Arizona Association of School Business Officials (AASBO), Scottsdale Boys & Girls Club and Arizona Business & Education Coalition. He has served with St. Vincent DePaul and Support Sky Harbor Neighborhood Coalition. While a school administrator, David was named AASBO Member of the Year and received the State of Arizona Governor’s Award for Energy Efficiency.

    Antonya Williams is primarily involved in the preconstruction phase of McCarthy projects, working with project teams and collaborating with the project stakeholders. She brings more than a decade of experience in the construction industry, including nearly eight years of hands-on project management experience in the field and design management experience on design-build projects.

    In addition to her responsibilities with McCarthy, Antonya is actively involved with ACE Mentoring, Urban Land Institute, Design Build Institute of America, Alliance for Construction Excellence, New Pathways for Youth, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society and the National Association of Women in Construction.

With more than 23 years of experience in the construction and development industries, she has developed meaningful business partnerships with many school districts and public school foundations, as well as individual schools throughout her career. Tara is actively involved in the Arizona Association of School Business Officials, Arizona School Boards Association, Arizona School Administrators Association, and Arizona Association of Latino Administrators and Superintendents.

    Joe Brunsman serves as the business unit leader of the Infrastructure team for McCarthy in the Southwest. In this role, Joe is responsible for overseeing water and wastewater projects, airport projects and general civil projects within the division. His team offers general contracting, construction management, program management and design-build services for infrastructure projects in Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada and Texas.  

    During his nearly 30 years in the construction industry, Joe has managed many of the firm’s largest construction projects. He started his career as an apprentice carpenter and joined McCarthy in 2008 as a project manager. Since then he has become one of the firm’s most experienced managers of large self-perform civil and concrete construction projects, working closely with owners, design teams and trade partners to deliver outstanding quality.

    Dhruv Patel currently serves as vice president of engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) within the company’s Renewable Energy team. In this role, he oversees design and procurement of equipment and leads supplier and subcontractor selection and negotiation nationally for McCarthy’s renewable projects. Dhruv brings his experience with renewable and conventional power plants, transmission line, and substation design and construction to assist clients considering solar and energy-related projects across the country. His familiarity includes site identification and acquisition, financial analysis, permit and design management, EPC contract negotiation, regulatory strategy, capital budget management, procurement of equipment, supplier and subcontractor selection, negotiation and compliance reporting.

    Mike Gonzalez oversees McCarthy’s Integrated Design Delivery process in the Southwest, including design integration, constructability and design reviews, dynamic estimating, trend log management and virtual design and construction. During his 25-plus year career, he has worked with clients in a variety of industries including life science, infrastructure, manufacturing, industrial, power, hospitality, healthcare, commercial, parking, high-technology and higher education. His experience also includes more than 20 years as a specialty subcontractor installing process mechanical, HVAC and plumbing systems maximizing prefabrication and modularization of systems.

    Mike has served for more than 28 years as a United States Army Engineer officer, where he is currently a colonel in the Arizona Army National Guard commanding the Regional Training Institute. A LEED Accredited and DBIA Professional, he is a member of the U.S. Green Building Council, Design-Build Institute of America, Mechanical Contractors Association of America, Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors National Association, and Alliance for Construction Excellence, and serves on the Industry Advisory board for Arizona State University E. Webb School of Construction and Western Maricopa Education Center HVAC program.

  • Lee O'Connell

    With more than 15 years of experience in the construction industry, Lee O’Connell has developed a reputation as someone who forges collaboration with owners, design teams and subcontractors. His leadership in recent years has been instrumental in building the firm’s New Mexico office, where he served as the office Director until 2015.

    Lee joined McCarthy in 2003 and has developed a diversified background of commercial projects including expertise in healthcare. He has held multiple roles throughout his career with McCarthy which give him the ability to understand the project from concept to closeout. In addition to his current McCarthy responsibilities, Lee served as past executive board member of the Associated General Contractors, New Mexico and is current a member of Arizona Chapter of Lean Construction Institute and Central Arizona Society for Healthcare Engineering. He also holds the Healthcare Construction Certificate from the American Society for Healthcare Engineering.
