Mission Bay School is now open and welcoming its first students for the 2026–27 academic year. Delivered through a collaborative design-build partnership between San Francisco Unified School District, DLR Group and McCarthy, the new four-story, 82,000-square-foot campus serves 550 students in grades Pre-K through 5 and stands as a vibrant center for learning and community life in one of San Francisco’s fastest-growing neighborhoods.
Located on a 2.5-acre urban site, the campus is designed to support curiosity, collaboration and student agency through flexible classrooms, breakout spaces, collaboration areas and outdoor learning environments. Early learning spaces connect directly to outdoor play and nature-based learning areas, while upper grades are organized into learning communities that support interdisciplinary education and evolving approaches to student engagement and well-being.
The school also includes dedicated space for educator professional development and a fourth-floor Linked Learning Hub focused on biotechnology, allied health and STEM pathways for high school students across the district. Murals, mosaics, and an all-electric, high-performance design reflect the surrounding Mission Bay neighborhood while supporting SFUSD’s long-term sustainability goals
