Chattahoochee Technical College Health Science Building

With one-third of Chattahoochee’s students enrolled in healthcare programs, the new Health Science Building consolidates these courses in this state-of-the-art facility featuring classrooms and teaching labs. At roughly 80,000 square feet, the new facility will house six health sciences programs under the same roof on the Marietta campus as well as technology-enhanced active learning classrooms dedicated to physics, chemistry, biology, and physiology, plus labs to support the prerequisites required. Additional spaces housed in the building are two lecture halls, a computer lab, faculty and administrative space, a covered roof-top terrace, simulation labs, and an electroneurodiagnostic (END) lab used to study brain activity. This is only the second laboratory of its kind in the state of Georgia.

Shortly after McCarthy was awarded the job, construction of the project was put on hold due to funding issues. Providing comprehensive preconstruction services while waiting for allocation of the state’s budget, McCarthy worked closely with the architect to ensure the school’s design is within Chattahoochee Tech’s strict budget. During this process, we utilized programs such as Revit and Assemble to expedite the take-off process making them faster, more efficient, and ultimately more accurate. Our team of estimators utilized Assemble on the Health Science Building to give real-time pricing and quick feedback on how different design changes could affect the budget. This allowed us to validate the design and ensure the scope was within budget. This made for a seamless transition into construction once funding was made available in the second quarter of 2018.
