The Cattleman Complex comprises two phases of solar, with Phase I as a 240 MWac/ 335 MWdc solar facility and Phase II as a 150 MWac/ 201 MWdc solar facility located in Milam County. Together, both phases created more than 560 construction jobs and invested over $1.5 million into the local economy.
Cattlemen I represents EDPR’s largest solar facility to date in Texas, marking McCarthy’s long-term successful partnership with EDPR. The property, which spans over 2,000 acres across multiple pieces of land, is separated by miles of county roads and state protected water ways and was formally utilized solely as a cattle ranch. Today, the project is supplying reliable clean energy equivalent to the consumption of 37,000 homes in the region and is continuing to supply jobs with on-site operations staff along with staff in EDPR’s control center in Houston. The plot of land was also designed to allow the cattle ranch to still be in operation around the solar field boundary.
Recently completed, Cattlemen II successfully recycled more than 121,000 pounds of solar panels during construction, as part of EDPR’s commitment to reducing waste and extending the lifecycle of solar resources. Energy generated from Cattlemen II supports Microsoft operations through a long-term virtual power purchase agreement, along with Hickory Solar, also completed by McCarthy.
