Sun Mountain Solar
Pueblo, CO
Delivering nearly 300 MWdc of capacity, Sun Mountain provides enough clean, affordable energy to power more than 53,000 homes and abate over 400,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions annually. That’s the equivalent of taking 87,000 fuel-burning cars off the road each year. The project team installed 636,990 ultra-low carbon solar panels manufactured by Arizona-based First Solar and smart solar trackers manufactured by New Mexico-based Array Technologies.
Situated on more than 1,700 acres of land, Sun Mountain is among the largest solar projects to be completed in Colorado. It supports Colorado’s clean energy goal to reduce emissions statewide 26% by 2025, 50% by 2030 and 90% by 2050 – creating cleaner and healthier communities across Colorado, while contributing to local economies. The complicated project involved building more than four miles of transmission line to get the electricity to an established switch yard as the existing line was at maximum capacity.
