McCarthy is currently performing Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services for a 128-MWdc utility-scale solar facility with substation and transmission line for the US Solar Fund located on 750 acres in Beaver County, Utah.
McCarthy is self-performing the installation of NEXTracker trackers, 293,670 modules, all electrical, the supply of the GSU transformer and pile installation. A fully automated GPS pile-driving machine is being used on the project, which has increased productivity and quality of the pile installations.
Once operational, the solar plant will generate more than 277,500 MWh of electricity on an annual basis — powering 31,000 homes and equivalent to removing 51,000 cars from the road every year.
The Milford Solar facility will have approximately 100 workers on the project at peak-construction, many of whom are to be hired from the local community. McCarthy utilizes a training program called Training Within Industries to train workers who are new to solar construction, in an effort to help recruit new people into careers in clean energy.
